Filament settings by material and brand

Choose the material and the brand and see the nozzle temperature, the heated bed, speed, drying, retraction and adhesion tips. These are reference ranges to get started — always confirm on your spool label and print a temperature tower for fine-tuning.

Reference table by material

General ranges for the first setup. Brands may recommend their own values — check the spool label.

How to use these values

Start in the middle of the nozzle temperature range and tune with a temperature tower: if you get stringing and excessive gloss, lower it; if layers delaminate or the surface looks dull, raise it. A hotter bed improves first-layer adhesion. Materials like ABS, ASA, PC and Nylon shrink as they cool and call for an enclosed printer and a draft-free environment.

Reference values based on manufacturer recommendations and common practice. They may vary by product line, color and batch. Always confirm on the spool label.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal temperature to print PLA?

PLA prints well with the nozzle between 190 °C and 220 °C and the bed between 50 °C and 60 °C. It does not need an enclosed printer and sticks easily to a textured PEI plate.

Do PETG and ABS need an enclosed printer?

PETG does not require a closed chamber. ABS and ASA do: they need a hot bed (90–110 °C) and a draft-free environment. The Bambu Lab A1 and A1 mini are open and are not recommended for these materials.

Do I need to dry the filament?

Hygroscopic materials such as Nylon and PC absorb moisture and should be dried before printing. PLA and PETG also improve after drying. The tool shows the drying temperature and time for each material.
